Synopsis

What is the most beautiful thing in the world? And what happens when you let loose an entire city on it?

On an idyllic Celtic island, a wandering swordsman steals a powerful artefact from a secretive enclave of Taoist sorcerers. He absconds with it to a walled city of corsairs, where his gang of young pickpockets must play a deadly game of keep-away from the many who seek to claim it: merchant lord, mad monk, and mortician; scarf-swaddled strongman, hard-drinking flower-dancer, and the fox-eyed cow. Meanwhile, a boy locked in an offshore prison-rock is swiftly and steadily his mind. Yet it is he who holds the key to unlocking the artefact’s literally boundless potential.

Who will seize the heart of their desire? Who will survive the scramble for it? And when the sun finally sets on their struggles, how many can say what they suffered for was worth it?
